They made me loose more than 30.000 dollars. be Carrefull.

I had a dedicated server from Hosgator which i pay around 180$ per month. I lost my email access for a month, and because of credit card problem my PayPal account stopped paying this money automatically. And after the delay in payment they didn’t dare to call me but just sent some reminder emails to the email which i didn’t have access to. Is calling my phone that expensive for them ? and after 10 days, they just deleted all my websites files ( data ) without making a backup. So now, i lost my websites especially my biggest project bidloadz.com is now gone forever. And honestly i did spend around 10.000 dollars for it plus 1 year of my time ( around 20.000 ) So they made me lose 30.000 dollars just because they didn’t call to inform me about the payment problem. I wouldn’t expect such an unserious, unprofessional act from such a big company. And i do promise them that i will make them lose more than i did, by informing about their working style in any platform i can find. Everybody reading this, take care if you are already working with them, or you are planning to...

pay a bit more, cry only once

I've had web sites since 1997 and now have several, switched to HostGator a few years ago. The web sites are virtually never down. The tech support people talk English with no discernible accent, and actually know their stuff and solve the problem. The sales people have been helpful as well. I would so much rather pay the extra few bucks, and not have the headaches. I have recommended HostGator to many people.

Tech support okay; sales support awful

I was happy with Hostgator from 2006 to 2012, during which time I set my account to autopay monthly for a club website I manage. I've been very pleased with uptime, and any TECH glitches I've had have been handled efficiently and professionally by chat. Cpanel has worked fine for my needs, but in Dec 2011 I logged in to my account and inadvertently created 3 invoices (two of which I couldn't delete) to prepay for three years of service. This evidently created 3 new "accounts." I paid one by paypal and didn't pay the others, but HOSTGATOR autopaid the other two with the credit card on file. Long story short: after promising a full refund of the two autopaid, erroneous invoices, it took weeks to finally get a *partial* refund, and they refuse to refund the difference. Confusing, unhelpful. It turns out I've been overpaying for our website for years, and they act like this over $45. I'm looking for a new host now. (I rated Tech Support as Tech/Sales Support because Sales is why I'm leaving)

Awful support! Sales is very rude & not helpful!

I had already signed up a couple of company's that i designed websites for with no problems. But when I wanted to transfer my own hosting to them, they told me I could not have a dedicated Ip address. I told them that they list it as an addon for their plans. The very rude gentleman SIMON L., told me that I needed to justify having one. I asked what does it matter if I'm paying for it? He said that WE offer them as we see fit, and I could get one if I bought a $50 SSL cert. After a long, aggrovating discussion I told him I would take my business elsewhere. I'm currently moving my clients to another hosting company.

Hostagtor Does What It Says On The Tin

I just read a review where a guy has been with them since 2007 - same as me. He complains that now that he's got 100,000 to 200,000 visitors the site's slow, because it's on shared hosting. Well duuuuh! I use an 'Aluminum' account, so I can put sites up quickly and cheaply. However, I do realize that when those sites start to get traffic, I'll need to upgrade to my own server and of course this will start to cost me more. Naturally, I'll simply rent one form HG, as I know that their teams will move everything over for me without a hitch, because it's their system! Hostgator are o.k., just choose the package appropriately. And yes, I've moved away to other hosts and come back, because at the end of the day, ANY web host will have issues at some time, that's just the nature of servers, but I have always managed to speak with their people and get it sorted out. This goes for billing issues too.

I just switched from Go Daddy

I am so excited that I made the switch. I am changing EVERYTHING over to them. I am tired of GoDaddy's slow server problem and their non caring attitude about it.

Avoid

My sites are slow to load. Hostgator will turn your accounts off in a heartbeat with no notice or warning that your are growing too quickly. Customer support staff have been rude and cut the chats off. They claim it is an internet connectivity issue. Funny, they never show any disclaimers that they are having issues. I could go on and on, but with the lost revenue from my sites being taken off line; all I can say is avoid them. They mandate all of these changes. You make the changes, and you think problem solved. Right? You would be wrong as they expect you to document and supply them with each little change you make. And if they don't agree that you made all of the mandatory changes plus, too bad. Oh, and did I mention that they will keep charging you for hosting while your sites are inactivated. Works out great for them. Not so well for you.

Good with some drawbacks

Before joining I read various reviews and saw few complaints but just waved them. /** Good **/ 1. I have been with Hostgators for 1year now and have been satisfied with BabyPlan. 2. Support have been good, the performance good, and over all it seemed nice. So I upgraded to VPS. 3. Here support has been over all helpful and assisted with installation and available to help point toward a right direction. /** Draw Backs **/ 1. Thus far within 2months of being with their VPS plan there were two 3hr down times. Both times they did not notify us ahead of time. 2. When we upgraded to VPS I read about their plan and what it offers at: http://www.hostgator.com/vps-hosting/ The following day I received email and was told it doesn't come with MySQL and when I asked they pointed me to and hidden link(http://support.hostgator.com/articles/hosting-guide/lets-get-started/v
ps-virtuozzo-power-panel/what-do-i-get-with-an-unmanaged-vps-vz-only) that
was not even on the sales page. And I have to pay extra $10 every month. I hope they correct themselves be more straight forward with their customers. 3. Emails sent from my domain(IP) given by Hostgators to Gmail - goes to Spam.

Want to grow your site? Don't go here...

I've been using Hostgator since 2007 to host a variety of different sites. Never had problems, loved the responsiveness of customer service reps. Just recently, as my traffic has grown - first over 100,000 monthly visitors, then over 200,000 - my website began to slow down... and then to stop. Nothing's changed about the site. It's just that when you try to get onto it, it loads... and loads... and LOADS... for 30 to 60 seconds. I've tried this from everywhere in the world (via connection checking websites) - it's the same everywhere. Why? The site's become too successful, and now the shared server it's on is overwhelmed. As a result, the site's #1 rankings in Google are taking a dive. The site's traffic is taking a dive. And yet the site's performance is still mired in the land of tortoise-slow. Now I'm faced with having to take time out of my 16 hour workdays juggling multiple start ups to figure out how to move a moderately large website to a completely new hosting company and not have things miss a beat. I spent about 5 years as a Hostgator evangelist, telling everyone I knew to go with Hostgator - and that's a recommendation I'll never make again.
